To Strike Gold Is So Great

As a Bruneian and Brunei being a member of Asean and Commonwealth, I am proud that Singapore and Malaysia managed to get Gold Medals in the recently completed Commonwealth Games 2010 in India.

Ten years ago these two nations (if I am not mistaken) though managed to get Gold Medals in the C'wealth Games but not so many as they had grabbed in 2010 C'wealth Games in India.

How did they manage to improve so much? We should learn from them and at the same time do research on why our beloved Brunei did not do well in regional and international games such as Sukma, Arafura, Mini Olympic Singapore, Olympic Games, Asian Games and Commonwealth Games - why?

This is what KKBS should do to find out why we are not doing well even at Sukma and SEA Games.

I would say that why not we concentrate on individual events or sports such as Shooting (well get the athletes from the Army, Police and Prisons Department for a start) Archery (allow indoor Archery - like in Miri and Limbang) for a start why not JBS and KKBS "take over "these two sports" so that they will fully control these two sports maybe for security reasons -Archery maybe doing it Indoor or at the National Stadium for selected athletes from the youth group of under 23.

Another matter to improve our performance at regional and International Levels is that "people concerned" should be serious about sports and more incentives for training, get good coaches.

Other than the sports I mentioned we should be serious also in Golf, Martial Arts, fencing - as I said earlier concentrate on individual sports.

We shouldn't be afraid of spending money if we want to be par with other nations and win medals (If we give nuts we only get monkeys - sorry to say this). But the above are only 'ideas" which the R and D of JBS and KKBS to pick up. I am sure "big Government agencies like JBS and KKBS surely have expertise/experts and staff who are capable of doing the research I mentioned.

Well by the way what happens to the gold projects of the Ministry of Culture Youth and Sports which started about three years ago? I have not heard about it again.

I hope the JBS and KKBS will take note of the above observation - accept it as "good criticism in a positive way and - not mere complaints - but suggestions to improve performance in regional and international sports participation.

Criticism should sometimes be "taken" not only from friends but also from our foes.
