Lebak, Banten - Banten police have identified three suspects for Monday`s torching of 21 train coaches at Rangkasbitung railway station.
"So far we have identified three suspects with initials EKA, RO, and DP," Banten police chief n Brig Gen Agus Kusnadi said in Rangkasbitung on Tuesdary.
Agus said police were now hunting the three suspects and it was hoped they could be captured as early Wednesday night.
He said the three suspects were Rankasbitung residents but their motive for torching the train carriages was still unclear.
"We are still questioning some key witnesses to determine whether more people were involved and to uncover the motive behind the torching," Agus said.
At 1.45 am on Monday, October 11, 2010, some 21 coaches of a stationary train at Rangkasbitung railway station were torched but there was no casualty in the incident.
Head of Lebak`s Public Order Police Force Priatnajaya said at the time that the fire was suspected to have come from a candle in one of the coaches.
Priatnajaya said his side mobilized four units of fire trucks, two of which belonged to the Lebak regional government and two others to the Fire Service of Serang District to put out the fire.
He said that 30 fire fighters and tens of residents around the railway station worked together to put out the fire which engulfed the train coaches.
Due to the train fire on Monday, thousands of passengers who wanted to depart from Rangkasbitung to Jakarta were left stranded because they could not be transported by the Express Rangkasbitung Jaya train.
