Malaysia Tops Tourist Arrivals in 6 Months 2010 Growing 18.7%

Malaysian tourists will this year surpass Singapore arrivals to Indonesia, according to data from the National Statistics Bureau. In the first 6 months of 2010 Malaysian arrivals reached 567,414 visitors, up 18.7% from 477,897 during the same months in 2009, becoming the country’s top market in number of arrivals.

During the first six months of 2010, Indonesia saw a respectable growth of 13% in tourist arrivals, said Culture and Tourism Minister Jero Wacik.

Meanwhile, Singapore who has for decades been the top producer of visitors to Indonesia has dropped to no. 2 position with 550,388 visitors, although still increasing by 4.5% compared to the same period last year.

Australia saw the largest growth with 44.3% to reach 321,652 up from 222,872 arrivals in 2009. Visitors from China also grew by a good 22.8% to 212,133 visitors. Tourists from Japan, however, declined with 10% from 212,096 visitors in 2009 to 191,256 in the first half of 2010, reports Bisnis Indonesia.
