Indonesia expects more investors from China

Nanning, China - Visiting Indonesian Vice President Boediono expressed hope that more Chinese investors would invest in Indonesia in line with national economic progress.

To have more investors from China, the government has offered five development projects to the Chinese government.

"We have five development projects which could be started immediately," Vice President Boediono said in a dialog with around 250 Chinese businessmen on the sidelines of ASEAN-China Expo 2010 in Nanning, China, on Tuesday.

The five projects are a US$3 billion coaled-fired power plant (PLTU) in Central Java, US$735 million Jakarta-Soekarno Hatta railway track, US$204 million drinking water supply at Umbulan in East Java, US$476 million Medan-Kualanamu toll road, and a US$36 million ocean harbor in Bali.

Boediono told the Chinese businessmen that with its abundant natural resources, infrastructure, energy, and agriculture businesses, Indonesia is a strategic country for world trade.

"Chinese investors are welcome in Indonesia," Vice President Boediono said in the company of Trade Minister Mari Elka Pangestu, Industry Minister MS Hidayat, Minister for State Enterprises Mustafa Abubakar, and representatives of state oil/gas company PT Pertamina and state electricity company PT PLN.

The Indonesian government has strengthened bilateral cooperation with China, and since early this year has also implemented Asean-China free trade.

The Asean-China free trade was also part of Indonesia`s efforts of cooperation and conducive business climate.

Vice President Boediono on the occasion invited the Chinese businessmen to invest in Indonesia by cooperation with domestic companies.
