Bangka Belitung proposes to host Sail Indonesia 2011

Pangkalpinang, Bangka Belitung Province - Bangka Belitung (Babel) Province has proposed itself as host of Sail Indonesia 2011 as part of its tourism promotion efforts.

"We suggest that Sail Indonesia 2011 be organized in Babel, rather than in Takalar, Southeast Sulawesi, as certain quarters have proposed," Babel Governor Eko Maulana Ali said here Thursday.

The Bangka Belitung governor had presented his idea of hosting the next Sail Indonesia in his province to a number of other provinces.

"We hope that by hosting Sail Indonesia 2011, we can promote Babel`s tourism," the governor said.

Sail Bunaken 2009 was organized in North Sulawesi and Sail Banda 2010 in Maluku Province.

Maluku province organized Sail Banda from July 24 to August 17, 2010, almost coinciding with a cultural festivity organized in Southeast Sulawesi, from August 13 to August 16, 2010.

"Sail Banda" was participated by about 50 yachts which later sailed to Wakatobi, Southeast Sulawesi, as well.

Meanwhile, lasting from August 12-20,2009 in North Sulawesi, Sail Bunaken was participated in by 28 warships, a number of fighter planes, and 165 yachts from at least 30 countries which joined an International Fleet Review.

Sail Bunaken participants came from the United States, Australia, Britain, the Philippines, Brunei, India, Cambodia, Malaysia, Nigeria, New Zealand, Pakistan, Portugal, China, Thailand, Singapore, Timor Leste, Brazil, Russia, Prance, South Korea, Japan, Turkey, Chili, Bangladesh, Canada, the Netherlands, Saudi Arabia, Iran, Italy, Peru, Syria, and Papua New Guinea (Uu.F001/HAJM/O001/P003)
