Bandar Seri Begawan - Brunei Darussalam has begun to implement a new national education system nationwide in a bid to enhance its education level, a local newspaper said on Tuesday.
Brunei Education Minister Pehin Dato Haji Abdul Rahman said that the new education system was aimed at improving the country`s education achievement towards realizing the Brunei Vision 2035, according to the Borneo Bulletin.
The Vision is set to make Brunei well known in the world for its educated, highly-skilled and successful citizens, high quality of living among citizens as well as for its dynamic and sustainable economy.
The Brunei Education Ministry was confident that the new system would answer the country`s high expectations of seeing all students have the opportunity for the highest education, the minister said at a ceremony here on Monday.
The ministry was focusing on equipping the younger generation with quality education to make them more dynamic, he said at the ceremony launching the new system, named the System Pendidikan Negara Abad Ke-21 (SPN21) or the 21st Century National Education System.
The SPN21 was implemented after last year`s successful trial run in the sultanate to upgrade the outdated one in a bid to equip students with the 21st skills and knowledge, the Bulletin said.
It will be implemented gradually, phase by phase, and the full implementation at primary classes will take place in 2011, the newspaper added.
