Bandar Seri Begawan - Brunei Festival of Books, Brunei Book Fair 2009, with the theme `The future is books` will be held from February 27 to March 8.
The festival is held in conjunction with Brunei Darussalam`s 25th National Day.
The festival will be participated by local vendors, institutions and agencies and invitation has been sent overseas. Therefore, this is an opportunity that book lovers and enthusiasts alike should not miss.
This year`s festival would feature a lot of things for book enthusiasts, including new books with special discounted prices. There will also be quizzes, colouring contest and story-telling competition (preliminary rounds) and many more for children to participate.
The event aims to bring together book dealers, distributors, publishers, illustrators, librarians, students, book enthusiasts and the public to increase greater appreciations.
There will also be a meeting held by the Asean Book Association. A workshop on book designing technique will also be organised.
The festival will be held every day at the Indoor Stadium, Hassanal Bolkiah Sports Complex from 8.30am till 10am and from 2.30pm till 10pm, except Friday which will be opened from 9am till 11:30am and from 2.30pm till 10pm.
The festival is organised by the Language and Literature Bureau. The opening ceremony is scheduled to be held on Saturday, February 28 at 9am.
Out of the 120 booths allotted, 85 booths have already been booked. Therefore, the bureau`s director, Dr Mataim Bakar urged interested vendors or agencies to register at the Language and Literature Bureau in Berakas as soon as possible.
During the press conference, the bureau`s director said in conjunction to the festival, a workshop on book designing technique will also be held. Invited facilitator from Singapore and the Philippines will be conducting the workshop. It will be held for three days. For this workshop, a $100 fee is required.
He added that because the seat is limited, prospective applicants must apply early to avoid disappointment.
New books, especially from the bureau`s publication, will also be issued with special discounted prizes.
Participation is opened to university publishers, government departments, foreign and local publishers, as well as IT vendors. Application forms must be completed and returned to The Secretariat, Brunei Book Fair 2009, Dewan Bahasa dan Pustaka, Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports, Old Airport, Berakas BB3510, Negara Brunei Darussalam.
