Ambon, Maluku - Maluku Governor Karel Albert Ralahalu fully supported President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono`s decision to cancel his state visit to the Netherlands.
"The government of Maluku Province fully supports and defends the cancellation of President Yudhoyono`s trip visit the Netherlands," the governor said after a meeting Asean Cooperation Director General Djauhari Oratmangun here on Wednesday night.
Ralahalu said President Yudhoyono`s decision on Tuesday to cancel his three-day official visit to the Netherlands was correct for the sake of national dignity and honor.
"It concerned Indonesia`s national dignity and honor," Governor Ralahalu said.
According to Ralahalu, the plan of activists of the separatist South Maluku Republic (RMS) movement to have President Yudhoyono arrested on alleged human rights violations when visited the Netherlands could a negative impact on the two countries` bilateral relations.
"The already harmonious relations between Indonesia and the Netherlands should not be tarnished by the interest of a small group of people," Ralahalu said.
But the governor pointed out that what has been done by RMS separatist group in the Netherlands did not have an impact on conducive situation in Maluku.
"It by no means has an impact on the conducive situation in the province and the people are not affected whatsoever. In reality, two international events of Ambon Jazz Plus Festival 2010 (AJPF-2010) and New Asean Workshop will be conducted in Ambon from October 8-10, 2010," Ralahalu said.
The governor also called on the people of Maluku not to be provoked by the separatist RMS movement in the Netherlands but continued to maintain the stability in the province.
"Let us keep stability of the increasingly conducive situation and not damage the hard-fighting heroes of Maluku origin," Ralahalu said, asserting that Maluku was part of the Unitary Sate of the Republic of Indonesia (NKRI). (*)
