Adventure Begins For MABIMS Youths

Bandar Seri Begawan - Brunei will play host to the 14th annual informal Religious Ministers of Brunei Darussalam, Indonesia, Malaysia and Singapore (MABIMS) meet this year.

Among the highlights of the meet is the second youth bus project, a 13-day event that opened yesterday. Scheduled to run until Oct 16, the project sees the participation of 13 youths from member countries travelling across Brunei, Malaysia and Indonesia.

The youth bus project is a strategic field in the national level of MABIMS members that encapsulates the potential of youths as the future generation. Singapore, as one of the MABIMS members, is coordinator of the strategic field.

The youth bus project was official launched yesterday at the Ministry of Religious Affairs in the presence of Minister of Religious Affairs cum chief guest Pg Dato Seri Setia Dr Hj Mohammad.

The theme for this year's project is 'Empowering Islamic Youths Identity.'

Also present at the ceremony were Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Religious Affairs Dato Paduka Hj Md Mahdi; Acting Deputy Permanent Secretary Datin Paduka Hjh Zasia, representatives of diplomatic corps from the three neighbouring states, directors, assistant directors, senior officials and family members of the participants.

The participants are heading towards Pontianak as the first destination. There, they will engage in numerous activities (such as Ta' aruf, team-building and community projects) arranged by the Ministry of Religious Affairs of Indonesia.

They will then proceed to Sarawak, Malaysia, to participate in programmes that include attending briefings on the role of the Sarawak Religious Council and a study tour to the Cultural Village organised by Malaysia's Islamic Development Department (JAKIM).

Brunei will be the last destination and participants will enroll in religious and community activities such as reciting Ratib Al-Attas, Tazkirah sharing session with participants of the MABIMS youth bus, propagation activities, cleaning campaign with Perpindahan Kg Pandan mosque youths, community project to build a store at Kg Bebuloh cemetery and sports activities with residents of Kg Bebuloh.

Also planned are knowledge programmes that include dialogue sessions with youth leaders in Brunei, attending motivational talk on excellent youths, attending MIB talks, and touring educational institutions and places of interest.

The first MABIMS youth bus project was held last year in Malaysia and its objectives included strengthen ties among youth leaders in MABIMS member countries in order to strengthen plan and coordination of youth programmes, facilitate information sharing and best practices on strategies and programmes to develop youths, contribute towards enrichment efforts of youth leaders and to enhance awareness among youth leaders and the younger generation.
