Yogyakarta - The Yogyakarta Tourism Office is hoping that the number of foreign tourists in 2010 will increase by 10 percent compared to the previous year’s 160.000. Hence, it will begin offering tax holidays, as already implemented in Jakarta and Bali.A tax holiday or a value added tax (VAT) return is given to a person who shops locally. “This is part of the promotion to raise the number of tourists,” Tazbir, Revenue Office chief, told reporters at the Palace yesterday.
Another effort is to map the events. “All events in Yogyakarta already have schedules,” Tazbir said, adding that his office was also trying to add more flights from Singapore and Malaysia.
