"In previous years, Sail Indonesia participants did not make a stopover at Rote Ndao but this year the district will be their new destination," Lens Haning said.
Sail Indonesia 2010 would start in Darwin on Saturday July 26, 2010, and during the following three months the participants would be entertained at a series of cultural festivals at different stopovers across Indonesia.
With Rote Ndao having been designated as a new destination for Sail Indonesia participants, local authorities have begun to refurbish and spruce up the region`s marine tourism spots, including the surfing and diving sites at Nembrala beach.
Preparations were also being made for traditional Sasando music performances and the making of typical souvenirs to attract the Sail Indonesia participants from different countries and make their visit pleasant.
In the southernmost Indonesian island and district of Rote Ndao, Haning said, the participants would have the opportunity to go surfing and diving at Nembrala and Termanu beaches and watch various traditional activities, including "sopi" (alcoholic) distilling, palm or brown sugar making, "ikat" weaving, and Sasando music performances.
Sail Indonesia is an annual sailing rally now in its tenth year that departs from Darwin in the middle of July and is followed by a three month program of linked events across Indonesia.
After visiting various tourist objects in Kupang and Timor Tengah Selatan for one week, the Sail Indonesia Participants would set sail to Rote Ndao and then on to Alor, Maumere, Labuan Bajo, and Komodo island.
While in Komodo island, the participants could take time to visit Loh Liang, the entry point to the world renowned Komodo National Park which was established in 1980 to conserve the unique Komodo dragon (Varanus komodoensis) and its habitat.
These prehistoric creatures are among the world`s largest reptiles, growing to over 3 meters long and weighing over 70kg.
Pink Beach, just a short distance away from Loh Liang and still part of Komodo National Park, is so named because of the red organ pipe coral (Tubifera musica) that contributes to the sand on this spectacular beach.
Swimming, snorkeling, sea kayaking or just relaxing on the beach are all options available for the Sail Indonesia participants today to make the most of their time on this world famous beach.
They can also access the national park and participate in a guided walk with local guides to walk over uneven ground including some uphill climbs, and take them deep into the national park in search of the dragons.

The participants will be able so see some of the more remote parts of Indonesia as they cross the country, away from the well worn tourist areas.
At each of these stopovers they will be able to experience different peoples and their cultures, different lifestyles, different arts, different crafts, wonderful foods and of course different languages.(Otniel Tamindael)
