Jakarta - Supreme Court Chairman Harifin A Tumpa here on Wednesday installed Bank Indonesia (BI) senior deputy governor Darmin Nasution as the central bank governor for the 2010 - 2013 period.
Among those present at the ceremony to install Darmin were all officials of BI board of governors, Vice President Boediono as former BI governor, and a number of cabinet ministers.
The cabinet ministers were among others Coordinating Minister for Economy Hatta Rajasa, Finance Minister Agus Martowardojo, Communication and Informatics Minister Tifatul Sembiring, Trade Minister Mari Elka Pangestu, and State Minister for National Development Planning Board Armida S Alisjahbana.
Boediono took the position of BI governor for a year, from April 2008 to May 2009 and then resigned because he ran for vice presidential post.
Following the resignation of Boediono, Darmin served as acting BI governor until finally President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono proposed him to the House of Representatives (DPR) as the sole BI gubernatorial candidate to undergo fit and proper test.
In July this year Darmin passed the fit and proper test, conducted by House`s Commission XI, although he was later criticized by a number of House factions following his alleged involvement in Bank Century scandal. (*)
