Bengkulu police to deploy 1,500 personnel to secure Lebaran

Bengkulu, Sumatra - Bengkulu Police will deploy 1,500 personnel in a Nala 2010 operation to ensure Idul Fitri or Lebaran holiday security.

"Those police personnel will be spread to some 42 humanitarian posts in Bengkulu to help regulate the traffic during Lebaran holiday exodus," Bengkulu police spokesman Brig Gen Burhanudin Andi said here on Friday.

He said each humanitarian post would have police official, transportation officials, medical officials, and the facility for the travelers to have a rest.

"Heavy equipment and its operator will also be made available at a number of landslide-prone areas," Burhanudin said, adding that the humanitarian posts would operate seven days before and after Lebaran holiday.

In addition to 1,500 personnel, Burhanuddin said Bengkulu police would also deploy officials in brown uniforms to ensure the security of public houses being left unattended by the owners.

"We hope the holiday travelers, before leaving their houses, leave their house keys at the nearest police office," he said.

He added that security personnel would also be deployed at a number of crowded areas such as traditional markets, bus terminals, airports, and sea ports to detect possible criminal acts. (Uu.O001/ H-NG/F001/P003)
