Indonesia festival to be held in Australia

Manado, N Sulawesi - Indonesia festival, which is to be participated in by art team from North Sulawesi, will be held in three Australian major cities on August 6, 2010.

The North Sulawesi art team is under the care provincial Culture and Tourism Office`s Unit of Regional Technical Implementers (UPTD).

"We will be in Australia to stage art performances in three Australia major cities namely Sydney, Canberra, and Melbourne to promote North Sulawesi tourism potential," the team`s spokesman Terry Solangs said here on Saturday.

Solangs said the team would promote North Sulawesi`s tourism potentials as part of Visit Indonesia 2010, expected to attract as many Australian Tourists as possible to visit Indonesia in general and North Sulawesi particular.

He said the art team from North Sulawesi would do its best in the art performances in Australia for the sake of Indonesia`s good name.

While in Australia, the team will perform all traditional dances in North Sulawesi such as from Minahasa, Bolaang Mongondow, Sangihe, and Bitung in an effort to attract Australian tourists visit to the province.

Besides conducting the art performances, the tam will also meet with the so-called Kawanua Family Harmony Association (KKK) in Sydney, Canberra, and Melbourne.

The team is also supported by Manado Culture and Tourism Office because it is part of promoting North Sulawesi tourism potential.

"The presence of art team from North Sulawesi in Australia is expected to have positive impact on tourism in Manado and North Sulawesi in general," Manado Cultura and Tourism Office spokesperson Selvie Paath said.

She expressed hope that following the presence of North Sulawesi art team in Australia, the province would be more well known as a tourism city in Indonesia.

The art team has 19 members, among others former miss Manado Tracy Langitan, Villa Muntu, Karen Lumanaw, and Yongky Mahbir.(*)
